Troubleshooting your garage door
Below you will find the most common complaints and their solutions. Some of these solutions can be done by yourself and some will need a service call. As the largest moving appliance on your home, all doors require regular tune-ups. This may be done by the homeowner or a professional. Feel free to call us with additional questions or fill out the service request form on the right.
Complaint: My transmitter (remote, clicker) doesn't work. OR My keyless entry doesn't work.
Solution 1: Check the batteries. Some transmitters have an LED light which will let you know whether or not your battery is fresh.
Solution 2: Check your wall button inside your garage. Some have a vacation lock on them. If yours does, the light will be blinking. Simply press and hold the "lock" button. This will deactivate the vacation setting.
Solution 3: Your transmitter (or keyless) may have lost its programming. Refer to the link below for your brand's instructions.
Solution 4: You may need a new circuit board. This would require a service call.
Complaint: My motor is running, but my door is not moving.
Solution: Most likely your gears on your operator are broken. This will require a service call.
Complaint: My door won't open. It only goes up 6" then stops.
Solution: Check the coil springs above your door. If there is a separation in either one of them, you need a new spring. This requires a service call. Note: If your door has two springs, they are probably the same age and the other will break soon. We recommend replacing both as it will save you inconvenience and is less expensive.
Complaint: My door won't close.
Solution: Try holding in the wall button. This is an override for your photo-eyes. If this works, then your photo-eyes are misaligned, there is an obstruction, or they are broken. Check the LED lights on the photo-eyes to see if they are on steady (color doesn't matter). If one or both are flashing, check for obstructions. If there are no obstructions, move the photo-eyes to realign them. If neither of these solutions work, you need a service call.
Complaint: My door is crooked.
Solution: You may have a broken or unattached cable. This requires a service call.
With all service calls, the technician will tune-up your entire door and opener system, in addition to fixing the problem, to ensure that everything is in good working order.
